Mobile phone support for women in refuges

Following a proposal from Past President Derek Andrew, the Club agreed at its last Board meeting to provide up to $2500 to support the provision of mobile phones for women who go into refuges. The policy of the Women and Children First refuge (which the Club has supported for many years) is to take all mobile phones off the women when they arrive to overcome the risk of the women being traced through their phones. Our offer of the Club’s support was very welcome. The Club is purchasing 5 phones as a trial following on from which it will agree a further roll-out schedule.
